Messy branding exercise with third year Fashion Design & Technology students

So, I had a lovely creative day yesterday (always fun when you get to do something a bit different at your day job!) I ran a branding/identity workshop with third year Promoters on the Fashion Design & Technology BA at The Arts University Bournemouth - as Promoters they tend to work digitally a great deal, and miss out on the hands-on work that the Makers (by default) get to do more of; so I got them thinking about their brand through some lino printing and making their own rubber stamps. Kat (‘Mumford’) came up with something that she is really happy with simply through the limitations and restrictions the tools/materials provided - next week we are going to digitise her ideas, using Illustrator to create her logo proper. Obviously I had a go too, which helped generate some ideas for my No Cure For Curiosity Zine project with artist Paul Hearn.

Last week I finished my first collaborative web project with David Churchill of Wonkaweb - we’ve been busy building a site for brand new business venture The Glebe House B&B and Self Catering Holidays. I developed their simple branding before we started with the web site, including their business card, and David has ensured that our design has been realised into a fantastic and easy to use site.

Marketing Management for Queer, The Space :

I’ve been working with the Queer, The Space project since August 2011, so it’s very exciting that we’re only a few weeks away from the Showcase now. I’ve designed, built, and maintained the web site for them as well as designed the logo, posters, postcards, and Oyster Card wallets (see previous post). We’re hoping the project will continue to evolve after its premiere event in London on May 24th.

TIDELINE – A Celebration – Saturday 5th May:

I’ve worked with writer Sarah Butler on different projects a number of times now, and have loved working with her and Camilla Brueton on TIDELINE - it’s been such a great project… the text in the landscape, designed by Studio Frith is beautiful, and the book, which I had the honour of designing for them, has many moving stories from Belvedere residents, beautiful photographic portraits by Eva Sajovic, and new writing from Sarah too - if you follow this link to Sarah’s site you can find out more, and read more of the stories too. I also led a couple of schools’ workshops to co-create a guide to Erith Marshes with the students and helped another group to turn their stories into books for exhibition. I’ll post some photos of all this too…
